What Is A Franchise?
What Is A Driving School Franchise?
A Driving School Franchise is a way of working between a Driving School and an individual Driving Instructor.
There are four main ways in which it is possible to work:
- Employee
- Sub Contractor
- Independent Self Employed
- Franchisee
Employee
- The employer does everything to generate and organise the work.
- The employee is paid a salary, usually based on a set number of hours worked, regardless of how much or little work there might be available.
- Whilst some employees may help and assist the business in generating work, some will simply clock in, do what they are told, and then clock out.
- They are not really participating in the business, they are simply a worker, selling their labour or their time, usually on a continuing contract.
Sub Contractor
- A Sub Contractor is either a self employed person or a business that is working on behalf of another business.
- The main business has generated the work.
- The Sub Contractor is doing some of the work on behalf of the main business.
- They will often be paid for completing a particular job.
- They are again not really participating in the business, they are selling their labour or their time, usually on a one off, or individual contract basis.
Independent Self Employed
- An Independent Self Employed Trader is solely responsible for generating all of their own work.
- They trade off their own name and reputation, they need to organise and set up their own systems and procedures, do all of their own advertising, marketing and promotion in order to generate work.
- They may at times do sub contract work for other businesses.
Franchisee
- The Franchisee is running their own business.
- The Franchisee is running the business with the help of another business: The Franchisor
- The Franchisor provides the business name, a business model, help, and expertise.
- The Franchisor may also provide the goods for sale, and some advertising and marketing.
- The Franchisor may provide stationery and other materials to the Franchisee.
- The Franchisor will have organised systems and procedures for the Franchisee to run their business.
- The Franchisee is NOT simply selling their time or labour to someone else who is generating all of the work on their behalf.
- The Franchisee is running their own business in conjunction with the Franchisor, and the Franchisee is responsible for generating some or all of their own work.
